Our New Approach To The Building Safety Act 2022
The Building Safety Act 2022 introduces a rigorous new safety regime and legal framework, intended to make all buildings safer, with clear accountability for design, construction and occupation of buildings.
At Veretec we’re putting additional procedures in place to demonstrate how our design work complies with the Building Regulations, and specifically the new Building Safety Act.
These would include upskilling of our staff at all levels, training suitable candidates for the new Principal Designer roles and setting up and introducing appropriate management policies, procedures, trackers and systems.
We see many examples of the profession getting prepared for this new regime, with the Health and Safety Executive continuing to lead the way in providing opportunities for professionals to get up to speed with the changes. Likewise, the RIBA has been instrumental in providing information and links to resources for its members and non-members.
Even with projects that aren’t subject to the BSA (Projects registered before Oct 1st 2023 and significant on-site works commencing before April 6th 2024), we’re starting to see a shift towards earlier engagement on projects, where clients are seeking our technical expertise and competence in order to progress designs with confidence, and ensure that information is sufficiently detailed and developed from the outset.
At Veretec, we have systems in place to plan, manage and monitor this design and building work to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
We further provide construction and buildability advice to assist clients and concept architects with documentation production and have extensive experience in obtaining Building Regulations approvals.
Our staff are experienced at developing technical design solutions through the delivery stages of a project, so we’re getting selected project leaders trained and qualified as Principal Designers and listed on the RIBA Principal Designer CDM & BSA register.
With our proven organisational capability, skills, knowledge, experience and in-house behaviours, we will be able to fulfil this new role for our clients.
