The Project
The West King Street Redevelopment scheme by RSHP will see Hammersmith and Fulham’s beautiful Grade II listed Town Hall transformed into a vibrant new development for a wide range of community and commercial activities.
The refurbished Town Hall will create a welcoming and accessible hub that sits at the heart of a wider masterplan including over 204 new homes, commercial and office space, public squares, a cinema, restaurants and bars – all designed to revitalise the neighbourhood and boost day-to-night economies.
Project Details
The Town Hall project will feature the restoration and re-use of many existing heritage elements alongside a new three-storey ‘Glass Box’ extension which will provide an additional 4,500sqm of internal space, and a new roof top bar and garden. The campus works are currently on site and are set for completion in summer 2024.
Our Role
Veretec is working alongside contractor Ardmore and in collaboration with heritage consultants, Purcell to deliver this new, high-quality Civic Project, as a catalyst for wider regeneration.
RSHP have provided an exceptionally detailed level of information, making it easy to understand their intent and champion the key design principles, one of which is to provide a ‘ruthlessly inclusive’ scheme. We have taken particular care to address accessibility, rationalising and minimising changes in threshold levels and creating a flow of spaces, so that anyone and everyone can access all that the building has to offer.
“This ‘ruthlessly inclusive’ scheme at the heart of Hammersmith’s community will breathe new life into the King Street area and reinvent the concept of the Town Hall to make it exciting and relevant for the people it serves.”
One of the key public spaces within the scheme is the refurbished Assembly Hall. Rich with detail and historic finishes, our challenge has been to respect the existing built fabric whilst incorporating contemporary, accessible and fire compliant interventions and equipment. Veretec worked with Charcoal Blue who have further enhanced the Assembly Hall with specialist performance design including professional quality stage lighting.
'Future proofing’ is central, ensuring that any interventions are fit for purpose but also work for the long-term, and can flex and adapt to maximise commercial opportunities in the future.
