Veretec were appointed Executive Architects for Vinci Construction on behalf of Sovereign Centros.
The Arc is a £100m mixed-use scheme to provide a heart to Bury St Edmunds town centre. The redevelopment of a 12 acre former cattle market site provides 24,250sqm / 261,000sqft of new retail space creating a vibrant new quarter that enhances the existing town centre.
This includes a Debenhams department store and a further six buildings with 35 new shops, cafes and restaurants, 62 stylish apartments, an underground car park and a new multipurpose public venue arranged around open shopping streets and a new public square.
The 7,850sqm / 84,500sqft three storey Debenhams anchor store incorporates a unique complex bespoke designed cast aluminium cladding system comprising 2,800 custom made diamond-shaped panels with over 300 varying pattern shapes.
The development won a BCSC Gold Award in 2010, a RIBA Award in 2011 and a Civic Trust Award in 2012.
